Hawkstone Physical Therapy is pleased to offer orthopedic and general assessments through Alberta Health Services (AHS) for patients with a valid Alberta Health Care card. Alberta Health Services may cover some of the cost of physical therapy, however the amount of coverage will vary depending on your injury. As of March 1, 2022, Alberta Health Services has made some changes to how they fund and provide Physical Therapy services in the province of Alberta. These changes will affect all Albertans who want to access treatments funded by AHS.

We are pleased to announce that we are contracted under the new AHS model, making it easier for you to access the care you need.

What Does the AHS Funding Look Like?

  • Fractures and Surgeries
If you have had a fracture or a surgery in the last 12 weeks, you are eligible for AHS funding, including an assessment and 3-4 follow up treatments to guide you through your recovery and rehabilitation.

  • Knee or Hip Replacements
If you have had a Knee or Hip Replacement in the last 12 weeks, you are eligible for AHS funding, including an assessment and 6 group exercise classes. The group classes are specifically designed to help you regain strength, mobility, and function in a supportive group setting.

  • General Conditions for Low-Income Albertans
For clients with general, non-surgical conditions, AHS provides funding to support low-income Albertans, including an assessment and 3-4 follow up treatments. Patients must meet specific low-income criteria, be triaged by the AHS Rehabilitation Advice Line, and prequalify for treatment.

If you have any questions about Alberta Health Services coverage, please don’t hesitate to call us.

We know it can be tough to figure out what is and what isn’t covered. Our goal is to make sure nothing stands in the way of you getting the treatment you need to live a full and pain-free life.
